Hmm since chatbox had a pokeman convo the other day I decided we need a thread dedicated to pokemon (well we should have a forum dedicated to it, but Haru's too lazy) So yeah... discuss stuff..... like for example who is buying the game (so we can trade and stuff using pokewalker?

I preordered SoulSilver yesterday. I am so damn psyched for it.

Once I get bored with SoulSilver, I may get Mystery Dungeon Sky.

Once I get bored with THAT, it's a definite possibility that the as-yet unnamed Pokemon Generation V games will be out. I cannot express how much I am looking forward to this. My year is looking very Poketastic. It's possible that I won't be getting any DS games this year that aren't Pokemon-related. Should be fun.

Arnt all Pokemon games the same. Choose one, get badges and catch them all. Is the new gen going to be any different?

Superficially the same. Just like Zelda, Metroid, Civilization, Heroes of Might and Magic, Fire Emblem, Mario are all superficially the same.

But each generation has:
New Pokemon
New Moves
A different region
Tweaks to the game mechanics to keep balance and keep the game interesting.

Just in terms of battle mechanics, the generations have had:
G2: Splitting of Special stat into Sp Atk. and Sp Def., Weather effects, day/night (which affects a few moves), Steel and Dark types introduced, breeding introduced to allow for much more diverse movepools
G3: Abilities, natures, IVs
G4: Dividing moves into Special or Physical based on the move itself rather than type. So Fire Punch is now a physical move and runs off the Attack and Defense stats rather than Special Attack and Special Defense

That's not counting, as I said, new Pokemon with new type/stat/moveset/ability combinations, new moves to take advantage of the alterations (such as Skill Swap, Gravity, the Elemental Fang moves), a few alterations to existing moves, abilities and learnsets. Different TMs, move tutors and so on and so on.

So yeah. It's the same. The same but more refined and diverse. Same basic feel, but I like having a choice of Ghost Pokemon that's not also weak to Psychic, having my Alakazam's Hyper Beams do real damage, and having a sweet Dragon/Ground Pokemon that's immune to Ground attacks.

@Anna: Is that Shaymin? (didn't play Diamond/Pearl/Platnium) and it is legendary and has a sky form (confused). I remember wanting to buy a plushie of it at SMASH...damn you girl with Leafeon plushie!

I'm behind in the games too due to the fact I don't have a DS and should get one. Anyone know any joint combo deals with the game and pokewalker and the DS lite?
I heard in Japan, you can get a rare event and obtain a special Pikachu-yellow Pichu or a Notched Pichu/ Spiky eared Pichu.

Hey! So anyone who is getting HeartGold/ SoulSilver, what are your starter Pokemon going to be? (Johto, Kanto and Hoenn)

Umm, I was considering Chikorita, Squirtle and Torchic. (good thing the starter doesn't determine what legendary to get because you can get all three "dogs" (Entei, Raikou and Suicune).

i'm confused.. is this pokemon/.
