Hey all as you all know that the events which has unfolded in Japan is really tear jerking, and a lot of us have friends or relatives in Japan. I've been thinking whether you guys would like to hold a charitable event?

Guys there will be a fund-raising game afternoon hosted by the Japanese association clubs at UTS on 27th of March 2-5pm if your interested

I think this a great idea. I've seen that other unis are doing things (e.g. UNSW is having an appeal and vigil tomorrow night and the JAC is having a Fundraising Games Afternoon at UTS).

It's just a suggestion - but maybe there's a possibility to make this a cross-campus effort? I know Penrith has JAUWS and there's an anime club at Campbelltown. Maybe even the people in the Genshiken Club (I think they're at Bankstown). (I'm suggesting the anime/anime-related groups because UWS doesn't really have a group like the NSA (Nippon Students' Association) or other similar associations that other unis have).

Depending on the date and time, I'd be happy to help out.

One of my friend posted this on facebook and I would like to share this to you all

In Japan a child holding a snack, waiting for his turn in queue at cash register. When it was almost his turn, he looked at the register then he looked like he was pondering for a moment. Then he put the money he had to buy a snack into a donation box and returned the snack he was going to buy, to the shelf, and left the store. Cashier said “Thank you” to his back in a quavering voice.

I thought I'd mention this here:
It's a fundraising games afternoon at UTS. If people are interested, I'll send them an invite via FB. Or you can just RSVP straight to the event page.

sorry that i haven't been posting even though i saw this thread.. just coming up with ideas and so far nothing much besides bbq.
It's a cheaper alternative compared to hosting other food stands.

we'll most likely just do what kai said about USYD
umm we'll start the planning this week on thursday on the other side of the room.. so we can organise this.

@will : umm because we're putting the planning in your hand - come on thursday and show us what you got , we'll help you along.

We have a giant sign saying "Japan Jukebox" and for $1 donation the whole club will sing whatever song they ask for and for $2 someone can pay us to shut up!

But what if they actually like listening to us sing? Unless we sing really annoying songs that everyone will hate.

Update:
Okay everyone~
I've applied for a table and four chairs for the charity fundraiser, which may happen on Thursday 7th or 14th of April, unless people want it on a Wednesday. And it's just a general charity fundraiser for the Red Cross, not just for Japan.
And it's not a BBQ anymore, it's a cake/food stall- so if you would like to help out by offering a plate of food, feel free to do so~

PostSubject: Re: Donations to Japan's Tsunami    Sun Apr 03, 2011 2:12 pm

I'd prefer Thursday. The 14th is probably better because right now I have two things, one due on the 14th and one on the 15th. I should have both finished by the 14th.

Also, I can help but will have to leave at 2pm.

(Although I was going to be selling chocolates for the UNSW NSA at our meet. I could bring them next Thursday instead, or whichever day we don't do this.)

okay - i have no idea whats going on with this event >_<"
apparently it's suppose to be tomorrow but i've gotten no word so i'm just gonna assume its not on?
maybe its abit over delayed now.. maybe we should do something within the club like go to a park and play games and have fun while us members just donate how much we can and then whatever we collect just donate it? i know im willing to donate again even if i can't go to the event

Unless, no one contributes and I'll just share it around the club.

Why does it have to be tomorrow when I basically have only just enough money to get myself TO uni? Kyah.

(And I really need the $10 from Jesse-kun for something else).

(Oh well...I did help out the NSA...so I've done something...)
