This is a thread where you can share some of your exciting or not-so-interesting stories about your lectures/tutorials! Here are some of mine:

Corporate Accounting Systems lecture (2010)
The lecturer appeared extremely bouncy and spouted more accounting nonsense than usual, and 30 minutes into the class she was escorted out of the room by a medic(?) and had to take her pills.

Corporate Financial Management first lecture (2010)
So the lecturer went for a little toilet break but little did he know his microphone was still on. I guess you could use your imagination for this... lol

Developing Web Applications With XML (2011)
[Various Weeks]

-2nd prac - Tutor uploads our prac for that subject to the wrong subject. Cue a group of confused students who are wondering why they have the 2nd DWAX prac when they're doing a completely different unit.

-Around the 3rd lecture (maybe even 4th) - Lecturer (same person as the tutor) hasn't written our 1st assignment. It was due on the 14th of April, so not long after that week.

-Week 10 - Lecturer tells us she has neither finished marking our 1st assignments nor finished writing our 2nd (due next week) because she can't decide which to do. (We've since got both.)

So yes...DWAX has been an interesting subject at times...

Psychology lecture (2009)
My cognitive/statistics lecturer has a deep passionate hate for homeopathy, so to prove how harmless
it is, he went and ate a whole packet of homepathy tablets that was supposedly able to cure hayfever.
Homeopathy=expensive sugar pills!

During my first semester of uni, a few of my group members pulled a prank on the tutor. Since it was a 2 hour tutorial and practically everyone was bored to sleep going through accounting homework, a classmate slowly crept towards the front of the room while the others distracted the tutor with questions. He managed to change the clock 1 hour forward.

We went home early that day.

Microbiology lecture, my lecturer was just doing a quick review of biology 101, started talking about lipids "and the cell membrane is made of a phosphobilipid layer with the homophobic lipids and the homophilic lipids..... wait...that was a big mistake..."


Also in chem2 our lecturer was telling us about molecules with funny names like Arsole

In maths there were 3 people in the class and the lecturer kept asking us questions but no one answered, he started laughing crazily and talking about world war 2

In most of the nursing lectures, I'm known as the girl who draws. >.<" Either that, or I microsleep.

Some boring nursing lecture (2009)
We had a lecture run by two lecturers- who were equally boring and horrible.
The only thing I remember were two arguments involving my friend (Matt) on separate occasions.
1. Told off the lecturer about practice vs uni-based learning.
2. A lady was recording the lecture with her phone and told our group to "shut up".


Mental Health Nursing 1 lecture (2010)-every week

Our lecturer always wore a colour-coordinated outfit complete with accessories.

Her behaviour is so unpredictable at times, she shouts in the microphone when everyone is quiet and laughs at an inappropriate time eg. random joke when talking about hallucinations and often goes off in tangents.

Don't most lecturers do this? When it was close to the end of the lecture, she spoke really fast for 3 minutes. No one understood what she said.

She had a way of marking the attendance by only selecting random names and calling them out at either the beginning/ending of the lecture instead of leaving sign-roll sheets. This system was only effective for the first few weeks, until we realised she couldn't pronounce most of the names properly.

If you tried to question her, she takes it personally and tells you that there is nothing she can do about it (deflection <.<), especially when you ask her if she called out your name because you couldn't hear it.

^This wasn't from a lecture but I had a tutorial class with her and while she was in the middle of the lesson, she exclaimed, "Wow!" and asked what was the thing that was near the library. It was a chimney stack. Didn't expect her to be looking out of the window at that time...

A friend told me that she probably spent too much time with mental health patients, that's why she is now exhibiting their characteristics/behaviour.

Social Contexts of Health (2011)
we had a very respectable guest lecturer come in for a series of 3 lectures on indigenous health. it was a very serious lecture explaining the significance of the implications on health of people from the stolen generations. she continues to talk about many horrible things that have happened in the past and compares wealth with health. Just when it get's even more serious she flicks to the next slide and does a facepalm. i looked up to see the most hilarious typo under socioeconomic status XD

everyone cracks up laughing even the lecturer!

Plant phys: my lecturer always seems really nervous or unrehearsed and is like "um i think" all the time

Maths: My lecturer always says "So called" before every new word, "this is the so-called derivation, this is the so-called X" Etc every new word he says "so called"

Microbiology: My lecturer always asks questions and if someone gets it wrong he shouts "NO you failed the subject!"

"NO you failed the subject!"

I can't help but think of this! ;D

Although I wasn't in the other Marketing Principles lecture, I still find it pretty funny that 2 groups had a dance-off. (both of those groups were tied for 1st place) <-- we had 'group work' during the last portion of the lectures and the best answers won a bag of chocolates!

I wish accounting lectures were that fun.

Lol in one of my lecture rooms (a small class of like 30) there was this annoying device that beeped every 30seconds, it literally drove everyone INSANE!!! We changed class room the very next lesson but the dammage had been done =/

Does anyone remember the massive blackout at Parra south campus that happened earlier in the year?

Japanese 101 class

Our class was in the EE- Auditorium building when it happened, we thought it was just our room. Then our teacher kept checking the fans, powerpoints, projector and laptop for the cause-(short circuit?) because the power would be restored for a few seconds then it would shut down again.
Halfway, we hear people talking loudly and our tutor sends someone out to find out about the widespread blackout.

In another lesson, our tutor told us to leave the classroom and move next door. Apparently the room had been trashed over the weekend though there was no obvious signs of graffiti or damage, e.g. hole in the wall or broken tables.

Not exactly related to lectures or tutorials, but I'm seeing a large group of school students walking around campus as I'm typing this. Perhaps they came to observe us *cough model cough* students?

@Michelle: When was the blackout? I don't remember it and im at uni 24/7

Not a lecture story... but...

During Organic Chemistry 2 prac we had an alarm going off and had to leave midway through, all of north campus evacuated and so we had a couple of hundred people standing outside LY building for around an hour until we went back in because no one had any idea why the alarm was going off.

Later around 5/6pm that day I was walking back to north and heard a firetruck, kept walking and then it pulled into the campus, a minute later police arrived and were talking to my lecturers, a week later our prac teacher said it was a fire that caused the alarm, so maybe someone set it on purpose?

@Russ- It happened around week two (really early in the semester).

During one of my engineering courses at UNSW, we had about a hundred students (mostly guys cos it's engo) packed into a stuffy room with no ventilation.
It was getting close to lunch time and I jigged the first half hour of the 2 hour lecture to help my friend carry stuff to his unit nearby.
I stopped at KFC and bought a 20 pack of wicked wings and ran to class.

The only seat free was the one in the front row, right in front of the lecturer.
I put the chicken on the desk and took out my notebook and pens.
Within 10 minutes, the KFC smell was filling the room and everyone was looking at my chicken.
My friend even whispered in my ear: "Doug, you're killing us!"
Between then and the halfway break, you could see eyes looking at my chicken.
Even the lecturer started licking his lips lol.

Mmmm.... memories.

Haven't had KFC for ages... hahaha

Admittedly I did chuckled out loud when I read that you brought wicked wings to your lecture LOL!

If I were one of the students in that room then there's no way that I'd be able to control myself! I'd snatch the 20 pack box and run for my dear life haha. XD

We had this lecturer who was one of those friendly lecturers who were a little bit strict.
You know the kind.

He didn't like talking in the room. And if he saw you chatting, he'd nicely point you out
"Would my friend in the blue cap, please stop talking to my friend in the yellow sweater?"

He'd do this all the time with things in the lecture that'd annoy him.
"Would my friend with the green hoodie please turn your phone off."
"Would my friend in the back row stop eating please?"
"Would my friend with the blue cap please wake up my friend sitting next to you?"
"Would my friend in the purple t-shirt please stop kissing my friend in the white singlet."

Wait... Back up? Did he just say...?
We all looked back and we see one of the guys in the back row making out with his gf.
Everyone just stared. Some guys cheered and they realised that the back row wasn't so private anymore hahaha.

=p. Making out in a lecture? Seriously. Woah...

Can't say I've had any lecturers like that...
